Mertens’ Sedge (Carex Mertensii)
Carex Mertensii, or more commonly know as Mertens’ Sedge, is a graminoid with green foliage and purple flowers of the genus Carex. It has a slow growth rate and a height of 3.5 feet at maturity. Its duration is perennial which means it will grow year after year. It’s active growth period is spring and summer, blooms during late spring, is tolerant of shade and is routinely available commercially. Carex Mertensii or Mertens’ Sedge‘s floral region is North America US Lower 48 and Alaska, specifically in the states of Alaska, California, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington.
