Butterfly Milkweed (Asclepias Tuberosa)

Asclepias Tuberosa, or more commonly know as Butterfly Milkweed, is a forb/herb (a forb/herb is a non-woody plant that is not a grass) with green foliage and orange flowers of the genus Asclepias. It has a slow growth rate and a height of 2 feet at maturity. Its duration is perennial which means it will grow year after year. It’s active growth period is spring and summer, blooms during mid summer and is intolerant of shade. Asclepias Tuberosa or Butterfly Milkweed‘s floral region is North America US Lower 48, specifically in the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Vermont and Wisconsin.

    Found a patch of this in Southwest pendleton County Kentucky in 2010. It has come back the last two years. i wouldn’t mind this in my wife’s flower garden.
